One of our Trustees,Julia has been persevering and after almost giving up, the PR machine at MUFC emailed out of the blue to say that they would print a story about KitAid and the kit Julia took out to Lesotho in a match day programme.

Suddenly one night last week, without any notice, our twitter site lit up, and in the space of a few hours we received hundreds of retweets and favourites. The current figure has topped 1,000.

They then put the story on to their Facebook page and in the space of a few days we received 111,000 likes.

There were comments from all over the world and we now have the Beirut branch of the MUFC supporters club following us on twitter.

If you haven’t seen the story then take a look at either our twitter page or the fb KitAid Charity page. This really demonstrate the global branding of the big clubs and the power of social media.

Derrick has lucky enough to do a couple of radio interviews recently, so all of Beds, Bucks and Herts are now aware of us.  Well…those who listen in to Sunday night and lunch time local radio!

The Sunday night DJ (Nesta MacGregor) was great and he was really enthusiastic as he supported Arsenal and grew up in Jamaica.  He is a Radio 1 Extra DJ and he recommended us to appear on the lunch time show as he wanted us to get more publicity.

It all helps to spread the KitAid message and you never know who might be listening in.  Fingers crossed something good will come from it.

Eniola contacted us recently as she wanted to donate her old kit to a worthy charity.

She was recommended KitAid and I explained how we operate, which then resulted in the kit donation.

She is a very impressive person, a player for Chelsea, England, Team GB as well as being a qualified Sports Lawyer.

Her brother plays for Hull City and her Father was an MP in Nigeria.

I am pleased to have ladies players on board as we do support a lot of girls/ladies projects.

We also had Jordan Nobbs who plays for Arsenal, England and TGB attend a boxing up session last year.

On a truly positive note, we had a call from a Registrar based at Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool as he wanted to take out some kit to a hospital he volunteers at in Malawi.

Local KitAid contacts Janet and Vin passed on a number of Liverpool and Everton shirts and we recently received some lovely photos of kids wearing them soon after their operations.  We've posted a few on twitter and they are really moving. As we say, it really is “More than just a shirt”

Happy Easter to you all and as we always say, thank you for your support which is what makes KitAid the fantastic charity it is.

The power of twitter showed its worth to us once again as our stories were re-tweeted to thousands of followers.

The FC United story is a good one as at our last collection one of their players made the effort to come and talk to us after the game and donated a few pairs of his boots.

We got great pictures of them being handed over in the Gambia and Zimbabwe and he commented that it had made his day and how great it was to see a charity making a difference. Reading also re-tweeted a picture of their kit being used in the Gambia and one of their players started to follow us (Jem Karacan).

Twitter really does work, even if you don’t want to tweet, you can still follow us and see all of the latest news at www.twitter.com/kitaid

You may recall we have entered into an unofficial partnership with Adventure Kicks, who run trips to Africa (and Mongolia). They are planning a trip to Namibia for February 2016 and would like to make it a KitAid supporters trip for a group of 15+ of our people.

If anyone is interested could you please email Martin Myers at martin@adventurekicks.com and he will be able to give you the very latest news.

For those of you who don’t fancy such a long journey we will soon be taking names for the annual Ballysillan Belfast visit for next July (23,24,25th).

I know we have already had some interest so let me know if you are interested as we will need to make arrangements in March.

February's boxing up saw us pack an amazing 135 boxes in just under 3 hours.

The sessions are getting faster as we are getting more and more helpers at each session, which is great. Gone are the days when we used to say if we didn’t get 10 people we would have to cancel the session, we now get a regular 25+.

So far in 2015 we have already sent out 358 boxes of kit and this now brings the grand total of items of kit donated since 1998 to a massive 275,045.

It was only a few months ago we were celebrating the 250k milestone!

We really couldn’t survive without everyone’s support and we are very grateful for it. Please keep doing what you are doing!

We have been offered some press photos from the 1970’s by a retired freelance Fleet Street photographer.

He has the copyright and has hundreds of photos of the top name players.

I have given him a list of the big names (Best, Moore, Charlton, Keegan, etc) and we are waiting to see what comes back.

We will then frame them and hold an auction to raise funds for KitAid. If you know of anyone who might be interested in any particular player let me know and I will ask.

We are hoping to raise upwards of £50 per photo.

Barry has re-launched his collection and he has currently collected more than 11k items of kit since he first started in 2012. He was interviewed on BBC Radio Merseyside recently and they are very supportive as they plug the collection periodically and also have a storage bin in their reception. Good luck Barry and keep up the great work.

Last Sunday our founder Derrick Williams MBE had the pleasure of meeting his namesake.

Bristol City held a kit amnesty earlier this season and collected over 600 shirts for us. They arranged for their number 3, Derrick Williams, to meet up with our very own Derrick Williams after the game where they did a photo on the pitch.

Young Derrick was born in Germany with and American Dad and an Irish Mother, so he has the choice of playing for 3 countries. Apart from their mutual name, there unfortunately weren't any other similarities and our Derrick was disappointed to find out the Bristol City player's middle name isn’t Walter!!!!
